MRC/Wellcome drop-in research data management clinic

Are you funded by the either the MRC or Wellcome and want to find out more about their research data management and data sharing expectations? If so, then why not come and see us at the RDM drop-in clinic in the Medical School Social Space on C Floor on Tuesday 19th August between 11:00 am and 1.00pm.
The University Research Data Management team will be there and we are interested in hearing about how you deal with your research data throughout its lifecycle – from the creation and/or receipt of your data all the way through to its dissemination and re-use.
The clinic will provide you with an opportunity to share your thoughts on research data management planning, and in particular the funders’ expectations that a data management plan (DMP) is required at the grant application stage.
The clinic will provide information on how to:

·        Satisfy and comply with MRC/Wellcome research data expectations for data discoverability
·        Get a further understanding of free data management planning tools that are available, such as  the DMPOnline
·        Find out more about the University of Sheffield Research Data Management activities
·        Learn about the role of subject / disciplinary repositories and data deposit

So if you have a burning question on how to manage your research data please do drop-in and see us and feel free to bring along any draft DMPs you may already be working on.

Some common research data concerns include:
·        What are the legal and ethical issues surrounding my research data?
·        Do I need a data management plan as part of my funding application?
·        How do I securely store my data and back it up?
·        What does the MRC/Wellcome require me to do with my data post-project?
·        What is good practice regarding organising data and documenting it?

Depositing your research data in ReShare

Reshare is the UK Data Service's online data repository for the archiving and sharing of research data.

ReShare is for data that are of interest to social sciences and humanities researchers. The primary audience is ESRC grant holders who have a contractual requirement under the ESRC research data policy to archive and share their research data.

In July a Webinar was delivered showcasing the features of ReShare and recordings from the Webinar are now available. See below for the presentations delivered, which includes a tutorial for researchers on how to self-deposit your research data in ReShare.

Remember if you are interested in publishing and sharing your research data we have further information on the University of Sheffield Research Data Management website.

What is special about your research data?

The 10th International Digital Curation Conference will be held in London from Monday 9 February to Thursday 12 February 2015.

The call for papers is now open and for the first time a new type of submission under the theme ‘Data Papers’ is inviting submissions to give you credit for the data you have created and shared.

The short presentation lightning talk is capped at five minutes in which you will have the opportunity to talk about your research data, describe your datasets, how the data was collected and the potential for reuse.

Data papers should be submitted as one-page abstracts using the template provided and the deadline for the submission of a data paper is *17 November 2014*.
